School Renovation in the Mountains
This school is located in a high altitude, mountainous region of Lijiang, Yunnan, China. It is sole source of education for many communities surrounding the area including ethnic minorities from the Bai, Dai, Pumi and Naxi people. Since the school is located far away from the villages, children must live at the school most days and only return home once a week. Most of those students walk 1 to 6 miles along the mountains to go back home since they have no other mode of transportation, and high school students need to guide the younger students back and forth from the school.
Leaky ceilings, crumbling roofs, and holes in the wall are just a few of the many things that need to be fixed as a part of this renovation project. Eventually, we will train and work with locals to have new skills so they can be a more self-sufficient community.
